Jistě rozeznáváte tuto hlášku z kultovního filmu Pulp Fiction. A možná si i vzpomínáte na to, že před pár měsíci byl tady na stránkách článek o školním kole anglické olympiády. Čas uplynul a naši postoupivší studenti, Honza Pokorný a Jirka Podaný ze Septimy, si tak mohli vyzkoušet, zda-li na tuhle otázku zvládnou odpovědět dostatečně obstojně (i když, na rozdíl od Brada v Pulp Fiction na ně při tom Jules Winnfield nemířil pistolí) v kole krajském, jež se konalo 28. dubna v Libereckém DDM Větrník.

Soutěž se skládala pouze ze dvou částí – poslechu a mluvení. Poslech zvládli oba hoši perfektně, bez ztráty jediného bodu – asi se projevila dobrá příprava ze zkoušek C1, neb poslech zde byl ve stejném formátu – a měli tak našlápnuto k dobrým výsledkům v celkovém součtu.

V druhé, ústní, části bylo nejdříve za úkol představit se porotě, mluvit o obrázcích a poté si vylosovat jedno z plejády aktuálních témat a několik minut o něm souvisle mluvit, přičemž nakonec museli ještě odpovídat na záludné otázky od poroty týkající se tohoto tématu a jejich projevu o něm.

I v této části si kluci dařili obstojně, ale nakonec to na úplně nejvyšší příčky v nadupané konkurenci (prvních sedm soutěžících bylo ve dvou bodech od sebe) bohužel nestačilo. Hoši se nakonec, legrací osudu, umístili shodně na 5.(-6.) místě. Výsledek je to ale stejně opravdu pěkný a ukazuje, že Randovka se rok za rokem nemusí za své angličtináře stydět a můžeme si myslet na výborné výsledky.

A teď již nezbývá, než si přát, aby se i příští rok Randováci umístili alespoň takhle pěkně a ideálně ještě lépe – a hlavně k tomu poctivě pracovat, vždyť úspěch nikdy nepřichází sám!

I’m sure you recognize this line from the cult movie Pulp Fiction. And you may even remember an article here from a few months ago about the school round of the English competition. Time has passed and our advancing students, Honza Pokorný and Jirka Podaný from Septima, could test whether they could answer this question sufficiently well (although, unlike Brad in Pulp Fiction, Jules Winnfield was not pointing a gun at them during the ordeal) in the regional round, which took place on 28th April at the DDM Větrník in Liberec.

The competition consisted of only two parts – listening and speaking. Both boys did the listening perfectly, without losing a single point – good preparation from the C1 exams probably showed, because the listening was in the same format – which meant they were on their way to good results in the total.

In the second, oral, part, the first task was to introduce themselves to the jury, talk about some pictures, and then draw one of the plethora of current topics and talk about it coherently for a few minutes, while at the end they had to answer tricky questions from the jury about this topic and their speech about it.

The boys did decently well in this part too, but in the end it was unfortunately not enough to get the very top positions in the crowded competition (the first seven contestants were within two points of each other). In the end, the boys, by a funny twist of fate, took 5th (-6th) place. However, the result is still really nice and shows that Randovka does not have to be ashamed of its English students and year after year we can expect great results.

And now we can only wish that next year the Randovka students will place at least this well and ideally even better – and we’ll work hard to achieve this, because success never comes on its own!
